What is ALTOS Cable?
The ALTOS cables are used for campus backbone applications to connect the main cross-connect (MC) to the intermediate cross-connects (IC) in a campus environment. ALTOS All-Dielectric Cable is Corning Cable Systems' primary loose tube outside plant cable. These cables can be placed parallel to electrical service cables without danger of induced voltages and in the vicinity of power lines of less than 115 kV without risk of detrimental jacket effects. In aerial installations If a pre-existing messenger is not available, Corning Cable Systems recommends installing ALTOS Figure-8 Loose Tube Cable in aerial applications. The messenger wire is incorporated into the design of the cable, allowing faster installs since only one pull is required. Corning Cable Systems offers a limited-smoke, zero -halogen (LSZH™) Loose Tube Cable designed for use in outdoor cable trays (e.g., industrial sites), conduits (subways) and aerial applications in addition to indoor applications. Loose tube cables are also available for special applications such as submarine environments or low-temperature applications (-60°C).
